A kenduri or open house at home is a happy problem: lots of guests, one household bathroom. A house toilet that works for family dinner will not cope with 150 people over an afternoon. Renting portable toilets takes the pressure off your home, your neighbours and your family. Here is how to decide how many you need.
Count the peak crowd, not the guest list
At an open house, guests arrive and leave in waves. What matters is how many people are at your home at the busiest hour, not the total number who visit in a day. If you invited 300 people but never expect more than 120 at once, plan for the 120 and add a little extra.
For an event of up to 4 hours, we suggest about 1 unit per 50 guests at peak. If guests stay much longer, such as a full-day open house or a kenduri that runs from morning until night, plan about 1 unit per 30 to 35 guests.
| Guests at peak | Up to 4 hours | Full day |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | 1 unit | 2 units |
| 100 | 2 units | 3 to 4 units |
| 200 | 4 units | 6 to 7 units |
| 300 | 6 units | 9 to 10 units |

Events where it helps most
- Kenduri kahwin and bridal receptions held at the family home or a nearby field.
- Aqiqah, doa selamat and tahlil gatherings.
- Hari Raya, Deepavali, Chinese New Year and Christmas open houses.
- Kampung gotong-royong, sports days and community events.
- Corporate family days and company open houses.
Where to put the toilets at a home event
- On flat, firm ground. A lawn that is fine when dry can get muddy in the rain.
- Away from the cooking area and the food tables, but not so far that guests cannot find them.
- Where the delivery truck can reach. Narrow lanes, parked cars and low gates are the usual problems, so check the access before the day.
- With a light or a clear path if the event runs into the evening.
- Somewhere your neighbours will not object to. A quick word with them beforehand avoids complaints.
Small things that make a big difference
- Set aside more units for women and for families with children and elderly guests. Their visits usually take longer.
- Put up a sign so guests do not ask the host where the toilets are.
- Tell your supplier if the event runs across several days so that servicing can be planned.
- Book early for festive weekends. Hari Raya and school holiday weekends fill up quickly.
What to send us for a quote
Send the address, the date, the start and end time, the number of guests at peak, and a photo of the entrance if the access is tight. Delivery, installation, servicing and collection are part of our rental, so you do not need to arrange any of it yourself.
